11 Master Gardener Volunteers earn "First Detector" Training Certificate

On a cold February day before the first bloom of spring, 8 Licking County Master Gardener Volunteers and 2 Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalists completed a day long “First Detector” Training from Denise Ellsworth, Training Coordinator for a program through

The National Plant Diagnostic Network. The National Plant Diagnostic Network was established in 2002 by a legislative mandate to enhance agricultural security. The “First Detector “ Training  program was developed with Master Gardener Volunteers across the nation to educate them and then use them to be the eyes of the Network to detect and report particular insects or diseases entering the area that can be devastating to community trees and shrubs. The new certified members are: Margie Graft, Rosamary Amiet, Jim Rengert, Linda Sheetz, Jim Murphy, Karen McCabe, Bridget Harris, Kathy Stout, Tom Beckett and Tina Haegley.
